Business Spotlight - Emerald City Smoothie Kirkland. Here's her story...
Last week, we met with and filmed a FUN video with Laura Thompson, owner of Emerald City Smoothie Kirkland! She owns the Emerald City Smoothie's in Kirkland on 85th and the one in LA Fitness.
Laura and her staff are EXTREMELY welcoming and friendly, plus their selection of food "fitness" inspired, had me going. We will definitely be back.

Here's what we learned about Emerald City Smoothie Kirkland:
1. Describe your business:
Kirkland Emerald City Smoothie is your neighborhood smoothie shop. We have been in Kirkland for over 25 years. We specialize in protein smoothies and we also make Acai Bowls. We have an assortment of snacks, drinks, and supplements.
2. What made you decide to open this business?
I started as a young smoothie barista, and then moved up to managing the two Kirkland stores for a number of years. I had communicated to my boss I eventually wanted to open up my own shop, and really only wanted it in Kirkland. One thing led to another and she asked me if I wanted to purchase the two Kirkland locations.
3. What is your mission?
Our mission is to provide Kirkland with the best smoothies, in a fun and engaging atmosphere.
4. What was it like when you first started?
I was super proud to be a business owner! And years of building rapport with all of my customers felt even better.
Also, there was a ton to learn. Luckily, I surrounded myself with a lot of people who knew how to operate a business better than I did.
5. What would your customers say they love most about your business?
I think it would be our genuine love for our customers and delish smoothies.
6. What is the most memorable experience you've had working with a customer?
Hmm, there are so many. I've become best friends with people I've met through the shop. I've cried with customers, gone to weddings, baby showers, birthday parties of many of my customers, it's hard to choose. Also, I love it whenever Jimmy Graham comes in!
7. Do you have any exciting plans for the future that you want your customers to know about?
A third Kirkland location may be coming. Be on the lookout:)
8. What is something that most people don't know about the business?
Our smoothies are totally customizable to a lot of people’s nutrition needs, allergies, and diets. Just tell us what you need and we will work with you to make the perfect smoothie.
Also, we are on UberEats and you can have your smoothie delivered to your home, office, etc.
9. What made you choose your current location?
We used to be in Park Place. We loved it there, but moved once construction started. We liked the fact that our current location isn't far from our old location. We also like that it has parking in the garage next door for just our customers. The LA Fitness location was a good choice because we are inside a gym and it's super convenient for our customers.
10. Does your company help the community where it's located?
We support many local organizations by either donating our time or resources. Just recently, we participated in sponsoring the annual Two Feet Project silent auction.
We also hire a lot of local students from Lake Washington High School and Northwest University, many of whom are looking for a job for the first time and the necessary training to enter the work force.
11. If you had one piece of advice for someone moving to Kirkland, what would it be?
Kirkland is unique in that even though it is one of the fastest growing areas, it feels like a small community.
Pick your ‘third place,’ (coffee shop, church, smoothie shop:)) and get to know the people that work and frequent there; Kirkland will soon feel like home.
THANK YOU Laura for letting us stop by!
